Reece’s story

Turning difficult experiences into something positive

Just Been Laid grew from my own experiences with health, recovery, food and the comfort animals can bring. It is personal to me, and I want the business to feel personal to the people we serve.

Where it began

Why Reece started the business

I’ve always been interested in fitness, food and wellbeing, but life hasn’t always been straightforward. I’ve made mistakes, experienced addiction myself and seen addiction, mental-health problems and serious illness affect friends, family and people around me.

Around 2019, my health became particularly difficult. I developed fibromyalgia, arthritis, muscular and mobility difficulties alongside mental-health struggles. At times I was unable to live the sort of life I wanted.

After years of different medications, treatments and services, I started looking more closely at the everyday things I could change: what I ate and drank, how I lived and where my food came from.

I began buying eggs, milk, honey, fruit and vegetables from farmers and smaller producers. Changing the way I ate and lived helped me feel better in myself and gave me something positive to work towards.

Knowing where food comes from, and supporting the people who produce it, changed how I thought about food.

Animals and purpose

When I couldn’t get out or do many of the things I wanted, having animals around gave me purpose and comfort. They brought my family closer during some very difficult periods.

Food, cooking and care

I produce and pack eggs and work with independent producers. My partner is a qualified chef and carer, so she understands food preparation and the practical needs of people who may need extra support.

The bigger vision

Food is where we start. Community is where we hope it leads.

Over time, I’d like to add cooking, education, animals, growing, activities for young people and support for people who feel isolated. For now, the focus is eggs, organic produce and food we can provide properly.

An important note: I’m sharing my own experience, not claiming food or natural products cure medical conditions. Wellbeing choices should sit alongside appropriate professional support.
